Ways to Keep Your Kidneys Healthy
It is important to take care of these critically important organs in your body. There are several ways to reduce the risk of developing kidney disease.
• Keep fit, Be active
• Don’t take Certain Medications without prescriptions like antibiotics/pain killers
• Keep yourself well hydrated
• Watch your blood pressure and take regular medications if you have high blood pressure to keep it under control
• Don’t smoke or drink too much alcohol
• If you are diabetic please keep your sugars controlled

Is protein in urine serious?
Protein is normally found in the blood. If there is a problem with the filtering mechanism in your kidneys, protein can leak into your urine.
When large amounts of protein escape through your urine, you may notice the following symptoms:
Foamy, frothy or bubbly-looking urine when you use the toilet.
Swelling in your hands, feet, abdomen or face.
The more the protein leak in the urine,the worse the kidney damage
There are several reasons for protein in urine ,few of the common causes are diabetes, high blood pressure and condition called nephrotic syndrome
If left untreated it can lead to worsening kidney function and can lead to dialysis
What is high blood pressure/Hypertension
A person is said to have high Blood pressure when the B.P. is consistently greater than 140/90mmHg
If your hypertension is left untreated it can harmful effects on the different organs of the body
Most common cause of kidney disease/kidney failure in India is Neglected/untreated Hypertension
Some of effects of Hypertension are Brain strokes, blindness, Heart disease, Kidney disease, protein in urine.
Patients tend to stop tablets saying that my B.P. is controlled. What you need to understand that B.P is controlled only if you take your tablets regularly
In addition to medication you need to do life style changes like
1. Salt restriction 5gm/day
2. Regular Exercise 30-45mts/day and Yoga/meditation to relax your mind
3. Loose weight if you are overweight
4. Cutting down on fried food and eat healthily with more of fruits and vegetables
It is important to monitor B.P. regularly and use the prescribed medicines regularly
Types of Dialysis – Dialysis helps keep the body running as normally as possible. Without dialysis, salts and other waste products will accumulate in the blood, poison the body and organs.

> Peritoneal dialysis involves surgery to implant a peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter into your abdomen.
Simple measures to reduce the risk of kidney disease in diabetes
> Monitor your sugar levels and ensure your sugar levels are well controlled
> Monitor and Control Blood pressure
> Follow Healthy Diet and watch your weight
> Avoid fried/fatty food and Regulate your Cholesterol
> Quit Smoking and Alcohol intake
> Be active & Exercise 30-45mts/day
